Step One
When picking up your ski for the first time come prepared. Have plenty of packing, quilts, towels, anything soft yet durable. Also a good set of long straps, preferably a set of cam straps. Long, 4m+, so later you can carry or tie down more than one Ski/Board etc. Ratchet straps are the least advised as they have damaged more ski thru the awesome force they generate resulting in crushing/cracking the ski. Pre pad your racks if you are going to carry it on the roof. Another alternative are the soft racks readily available. If you are going to carry the ski in your vehicle, an International travel bag could be a worth while investment to protect your ski, now and into the future. Especially if you plan to do a lot of travelling. Never put your ski in the car with out at least 2 opposite windows cracked for air movement and to avoid cooking your ski, even in the winter time. You know how hot your car can get. If the ski is in the car always keep it covered away from direct sunlight. Never leave it in the car outdoors for extended periods of time. If it is transported on the roof and one side of the ski, usually the bottom is white, always have the white facing up to better reflect the heat. The colours on fibreglass act like a sponge to the suns rays and absorb the heat and store and amplify its intensity. Thats why most luxury boats, caravans, and planes are usually white to better reflect the heat. When packing your ski in the car/ute/van/truck etc always pad well. Where ever the ski comes in contact with a hard surface while travelling it wears. Most ski damage and wear and tear is done on the land not in the water. Usually due tro poor handling and/or storage practices
